Guardians of the Galaxy - The High Evolutionary

One of the most eye-catching leaks that recently made its way onto the internet is the Guardians of the Galaxy - The High Evolutionary Pop! Vinyl figure. Given the success of the third film instalment earlier this year, we're not surprised that Funko have taken advantage to bring something like this to the collectors of the Big Apple this year. This intricately designed collectable will capture the essence of one of Marvel's most enigmatic and powerful characters.

New Garfield Pop! Vinyl

Everyone's favourite lasagna-loving cat, Garfield, appears to be making a return to the world of Pop! Vinyl figures. The leaked image showcases Garfield in all his lazy and lovable glory.

The Toxic Avenger

Fans of cult classics are in for a treat with The Toxic Avenger Pop! Vinyl figure. This leaked collectable pays homage to the beloved B-movie superhero and is bound to appeal to aficionados of all things retro and quirky.

Warner Brothers x Harry Potter Crossover

Funko never fails to surprise us with its creative crossovers, and this year seems to be no exception. The leaked image features Lola Bunny in a Ravenclaw uniform and Sylvester the Cat in a Slytherin uniform, bringing together the worlds of Looney Tunes and Harry Potter in the latest of their Warner Bros crossover products celebrating the anniversary. This mashup is sure to ignite the imaginations of fans from both fandoms!

Indiana Jones with Snakes

Prepare for adventure with the Indiana Jones Pop! Vinyl figure featuring the daring archaeologist and his phobia-inducing co-stars – snakes! This leak promises a thrilling addition to the Indiana Jones Funko collection that will captivate fans of the iconic film franchise. We can't wait to see this one in more detail!

Demon Slayer Makomo and Sabito 2-Pack

Demon Slayer has taken the anime world by storm, and this leak introduces a highly sought-after 2-Pack featuring Makomo and Sabito. With impeccable detailing and a connection to a beloved storyline, this Pop! Vinyl duo will be a dream come true for Demon Slayer enthusiasts. Although the mould appears to be similar to the already existing Common variants of these characters, it's important to note that the masks add a point of difference, along with that coveted NYCC sticker.

In addition to these exciting leaks, Funko has revealed that their theme for New York Comic Con 2023 is "Heavy Metal Halloween." This theme promises an electrifying and spooky array of Pop! Vinyl figures and collectables that are bound to thrill fans with a taste for the macabre and the metallic. If you find yourself lucky enough to be attending the convention this year, you can find them at Booth #1000. More info over on their blog here.

Please note that, as always, Ozzie Collectables cannot reveal what exclusives will be available to us as an online retailer until the day of the event. New York Comic Con 2023 is scheduled to take place from Thu, 12 Oct 2023 – Sun, 15 Oct 2023, with the official online drop time still to be announced. Stay tuned to our blog, site, and socials for more information as we get closer to the event!

Greetings, fellow collectors! As passionate members of the vibrant community at Ozzie Collectables, we understand the exhilaration that convention season brings. The Australian convention season has once again swept through the land, leaving us with unforgettable memories and countless treasures. In this blog article, we will provide a thrilling summary of two of the most anticipated events of the year: Melbourne Oz Comic Con and Sydney Supanova!

The iconic Melbourne Oz Comic Con kicked off the convention season with a bang. The event took place at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, drawing an impressive crowd of avid comic book aficionados, cosplayers, and pop culture enthusiasts from all walks of life. The convention hall was brimming with excitement, showcasing a mesmerizing array of booths, interactive exhibits, and star-studded panels.

The Artist Alley was a hub of creative energy, where talented artists and illustrators showcased their awe-inspiring works. It was an absolute treat to witness the artistic prowess on display, and fans were thrilled to have the opportunity to interact with their favourite artists, acquire exclusive prints, and even commission personalized artwork.

Cosplay enthusiasts brought their A-game, as the convention floor transformed into a mesmerizing parade of beloved characters from comics, movies, anime, and video games. The dedication and attention to detail displayed in these costumes were truly remarkable. From iconic superheroes to fantasy creatures, every corner of the convention hall was brimming with colour, creativity, and contagious enthusiasm.

The star-studded panels and celebrity guest appearances were undoubtedly a highlight of Melbourne Oz Comic Con. Fans were treated to engaging discussions, behind-the-scenes insights, and thrilling announcements. The convention boasted an impressive line-up of actors, comic book creators, and industry professionals, ensuring there was something for everyone. Whether it was getting an autograph, participating in a Q&A session, or simply catching a glimpse of their favourite stars, attendees had their fandom cravings satisfied.

But best of all had to be seeing so many friendly and familiar places that stopped by our booth! Interacting with the home-grown Melbourne community is always a joy, and we can't wait to turn the heat up at the next Melbourne convention we attend!

Following the success of Melbourne Oz Comic Con, the Sydney Supanova convention took the baton and elevated the convention season to new heights. The Ozzie crew hopped in the truck Friday night and made the long trek up north. Held at the spectacular Sydney Showground, the event was a paradise for pop culture enthusiasts seeking the ultimate fan experience. The convention floor was a bustling mosaic of exhibitors, merchandise booths, and immersive installations that transported attendees to different realms.

The Supanova Expo showcased an incredible selection of merchandise, spanning from rare collectables to the latest releases. Fans had the opportunity to expand their collections, discover hidden gems, and dive into the rich tapestry of pop culture memorabilia. From action figures and comics to costumes and accessories, attendees were spoilt for choice as they indulged in the delights of retail therapy. We were so excited to be a part of this exciting line-up!

The cosplay scene at Sydney Supanova was nothing short of spectacular. The sheer dedication and craftsmanship exhibited by cosplayers were breathtaking. The event hosted several cosplay competitions, allowing participants to showcase their creations on a grand stage while competing for fantastic prizes. The sense of camaraderie and admiration within the cosplay community was palpable, making it an unforgettable experience for both participants and spectators alike.

Panels and workshops at Sydney Supanova provided an opportunity for attendees to engage with industry professionals, gain insights into their favourite franchises, and learn new skills. From in-depth discussions on the latest trends in the entertainment industry to workshops on prop-making and character design, the convention offered a wealth of knowledge for aspiring creatives and fans alike.

But once again, our favourite part? Seeing you guys! It's not every day we have the opportunity to meet collectors from across the country, so getting to interact with the Sydney scene of collectors, cosplayers and con-goers was a joy. We can't wait to see what future years of travel and convention hopping brings us!

The Australian convention season proved once again that it is a force to be reckoned with, and Melbourne Oz Comic Con and Sydney Supanova stood at the forefront of this immersive extravaganza. These events not only showcased the incredible diversity of pop culture fandom but also created an inclusive space for fans.

Did you attend either of these conventions? What was the highlight of your day? Tell us in the comments!

Last week, we hosted what is certain to go down in Ozzie history as one of the more exciting Comic Con drops, and what turned out to be an exciting amalgamation of community spirit and true geeky pop culture passion. In case you missed it, we hosted our San Diego Comic Con drop, which took place for online retailers in Melbourne, Australia at 11:00pm at night, as an in-person, late-night drop at the Ozzie showroom. Here’s how it went.

The in-person event took place at the same time as the online drop, but saw excited Melbournians lining up as early as 10 o’clock at night: in the cold, in the dark dead middle of winter, the anticipation for the upcoming drop palpable in the air.

While they waited, collectors dropped selfies in the comments of our Facebook post. The team went out to say a quick g’day and deposit some snacks about thirty minutes before the drop. As everyone stood hunched together munching on midnight snacks—cookies, donuts and flavoured milk; where can you go wrong?—the anticipation only grew. Finally, 11pm rolled around, and as the video went up and clicks and orders started rolling in online, so too did the doors of the showroom roll up to reveal the eager faces of our crowd waiting just outside. Then the front doors opened, and the Pop! Hunt began!

The event ran for exactly one hour, between the 11pm drop and midnight. The energy inside was unlike anything we’ve experienced before from a Comic Con drop. For those of you who have been in the collectables game for a while, you’ll know that when Funko rolls out their exclusives just a few times a year for overseas Comic Con events, the official shared retailer drop brings with it a lot of anticipation and excitement. It can be a bit of a drag making sure you’re out of bed at one of the many crazy times scheduled for these drops, so that they coincide with the items’ release overseas—in recent years, collectors will know that midnight drops have become all too common—but it’s rare we get an opportunity to see the community truly going to some crazy lengths just in the hopes of scoring one of few exclusive items.

The Ozzie team worked tirelessly to prepare the event before the official drop on Thursday night, including setting aside some exclusives just for the in-store crowd. Seeing these snapped up by excited collectors, who had come all the way out to our showroom in Eumemmerring (some of them in their pajamas, hoping to score a promised 10% discount) warmed our hearts and made for a truly outstanding atmosphere. By the time the doors finally started to shut at midnight, we’d served upwards of a couple hundred customers—more than double the number of turnouts we’d expected. As the doors rolled back down, the team was left speechless. Tired, hearts pumping from the adrenaline of a successful Comic Con drop, and speechless. Not only had we done it, but our local community had totally exceeded our expectations.

For all those of you who came to support our in-store drop, we can’t say a big enough thank you. Getting to share in something we all love and care about with a like-minded group of dedicated collectors is unlike anything else. Since we first opened our doors to the new showroom in November last year, we’ve been blown away time and time again by just how much love and support there is in the community. One of our key goals was to bring a Comic Con atmosphere to the South East. Especially in the wake of Covid-19, when we were all missing community the most, it truly does put the biggest smiles on our faces when we have the opportunity to do just that. It’s just like Funko say: everyone is a fan of something. The collector community in Melbourne more than proves this true.

We can say with confidence that the entire team at Ozzie are now eagerly awaiting our next event, and for the next opportunity to join together with the community and celebrate Comic Con in the South East. For those of you who couldn’t quite make it, we hope you’ll be able to join us some time in the future—as there will no doubt be plenty of opportunities to experience something like this again.

Happy Comic Con season to all those who celebrate, and keep being awesome.

Just hear those sleigh bells jingling, carollers singing, and... Funko releasing another wave of con exclusives?!

Hold onto your wallets.

The Emerald City Comic Con team announced early on in 2021 that they would not be holding their annual Washington Comic Con in March - instead, it was announced that the in-person event would be moved to December, to give Covid some time to chill out and con-hoppers the adequate time to get vaccinated. Instead, Funko released their prepared exclusives as part of a virtual event, a trend that many collectors have gotten used to in the past few years.

When NYCC, another virtual release drop, happened unexpectedly late in October, some whispers finally started going around about a possible late, end of year, last-minute exclusives drop. Many people aptly pointed out that a few predicted Fall Convention exclusives were notably absent from Funko's last-minute announced line-up. Would these elusive products be released some time later? Or were they destined to disappear, their memory a mere distant dream in collectors' minds?

A week ago, we finally got our answer.

Funko announced on their blog on the 19th of November that they'd be hosting yet another drop of releases as part of Festival of Fun at ECCC from the 2nd until the 5th of December. "Welcome to the age of hybrid events!" they announced via the article. "Funko is elated to announce that we’ll be hosting a booth at Emerald City Comic Con’s in-person event in late 2021."

So what does that mean for those of us who aren't in Seattle?

It means buckle up: more exclusives are coming.

Funko announced a total of 19 new exclusives on their blog, a handful of which will be available to international retailers like Ozzie Collectables. In case you missed the social media storm, you can check out the list of releases here.

As expected, quite a few of the mysterious missing NYCC releases appear to be present in the line-up. There was some previous buzz about stickers, and whether some of these ECCC releases might actually have the Fall Convention exclusive stickers on their boxes due to the last-minute change in release plans from October to December.

As always, Ozzie cannot confirm exactly which exclusives will be available to us until the time of the drop, but we can tell you this: be prepared! Make sure you're ready and on our site at the time of the drop, which is happening yet again in the dead of night. The good news? It's on a weekend, so you won't be crawling to the office and siphoning espresso just to keep your eyes open the next day. You will, however, be taking home a nice new bunch of exclusives, the majority of which will not be privy to the same delays we saw in October. Phew!

This year, the ECCC Festival of Fun December drop is happening on Ozzie Collectables from 1am AEDT (Melbourne) time on Saturday the 4th of December. You can read the FAQ here.

Well, folks, the day is finally here—yesterday, Funko unveiled their line-up for this year's New York Comic Con line-up. The only problem?

The con is in less than 2 days.

Anxiety started permeating the collectables community a little over a month ago, when Funko announced that they once again would not be attending New York Comic Con. Instead, they announced via their blog on the 2nd of September that a virtual con would take place on their site (and shared retailer's sites) instead, and urged prospective collectors to keep an eye out in the coming weeks. Then... nothing. Until yesterday, that is.

Hype started building about a week ago, when Ozzie Collectables finally posted a teaser for the date and time details of the upcoming convention. At this stage, about a week from the official con date, Funko had still yet to release the official details of the drop and its possible line-up.

But despite the mystery surrounding the elusive convention, fans finally saw some reprieve yesterday when Funko unveiled their list of exclusives. You can take a look by visiting their Facebook and Instagram pages, or their official blog.

It may have come as a surprise that the announcements, which usually take place in the weeks preceding convention events, happened so late this year. But many are choosing to see this as a fun, exciting alternative to the usual culture surrounding these conventions.

It's been a tough few years for everyone, collectors included. The excitement of finally waking up to some good news was a much needed change for many of us, and with NYCC only a few days away, I think I speak for many when I say: bring it on!

As well as the upcoming exclusive releases, we're also now able to confirm the date and time of the drop as it will be available to Aussie retailers.

This year, the Funko Virtual Con for NYCC Fall Convention Exclusives will take place on Ozzie Collectables on Saturday, the 9th of October as 12:00 AM AEDT. That's Melbourne time: as soon as the clock strikes midnight, the Comic Con drop will begin, so make sure you're ready and waiting on dpltoys.com!

Disclaimer: as always, Ozzie Collectables cannot provide information about specific releases, including which items will be available to us, until the time of the event. Make sure you're there bright and early (or, er, late) so you don't miss out.

In the meantime, for more information, you can read the FAQ here: https://dpltoys.com.au/pages/comic-con-faq

And follow us on Facebook and Instagram for updates.

What do you think of this year's virtual Fall con? Which exclusives are you hoping to get your hands on?

Happy Comic Con week, and #HappyCollecting!

Can you believe Comic Con is right around the corner?

As I'm sure you already know, things will (yet again) be a little different this year as Funko approach their second major online Comic Con exclusive event for 2021. San Diego Comic Con themselves recently announced that they'll be moving their in-person event to November. Here's their official statement:

"Due to recent inquiries, we would like to clarify that the traditional Comic-Con in-person event in San Diego, normally held in July, has been postponed until summer 2022. However, Comic-Con@Home will return as an online event on July 23-25, 2021.

This fall we’re planning a smaller, supplemental event we’re calling Comic-Con Special Edition, taking place on November 26-28, 2021. It is our hope that by that point, conditions will permit in-person public gatherings of this kind. As details are still being finalized, badge cost, attendance capacity, and related information will be forthcoming."

The online event will take place from July 23 to July 25, meaning the sales event for Funko exclusives will be available to Australians over this weekend.

Keep an eye out over the next week, as Funko are set to announce potential exclusives, and you can keep track by checking back with the Ozzie Blog.

As always, we're not able to confirm which exclusives will be available until the time of the event, but we'll announce the exact time and date a little closer so you can make sure you don't miss out.

Let's all keep our fingers crossed for some juicy exclusives this year. Tell us in the comments - what are you hoping to see?

Another of Funko's virtual cons is about to roll around, and the exclusives are set to hit retailers in a mere five days. Here's how to make sure you're ready.

Like many other Comic Con events of the past year, WonderCon 2021 is being held as a virtual, c-word-safe event. (No, not that one, but c'mon - let's not invoke its name - WonderCon is a time to celebrate, not stress!)

This year, shared exclusives will be available to certain retailers such as Ozzie Collectables as of 11:00pm AEST this Friday the 23rd of April. Like with most con events, we can't confirm which exclusives will be available until the time of the drop, but here's everything Funko have announced below.

To make sure you don't miss the drop, we recommend signing up for Ozzie's newsletter, which you can do by entering your email into the form at the bottom of our website. That way we'll notify you as soon as the drop takes place with direct links to the collection page.

Which exclusives are you interested in? Which exclusives do you hope to see for Funko's next big upcoming convention? Leave us a comment!

]]>
It's one of the first question many collectors ask themselves when they're starting off: are any of my Pops rare? If you're only just starting out, you're probably already aware whether one or a few of your items are considered 'rare'. The world of Funko is both an exciting and complicated one, with prices and values constantly skyrocketing - as well as crashing - based on product demand. Since there are so many products on the market these days, it can be tricky to tell at a glance of the shelf whether something is really rare or worth collecting.

Read on to find out how you can identify which items in your collection have the best resell value or are considered 'rare'!

1. Stickers

It may seem like a no-brainer, but for a lot of really new collectors, it might not seem as obvious. Stickers are often a way of determining both rarity and retailer exclusive statuses for certain items. These stickers can be found on the front window of the box and vary in size and shape. For example, glow-in-the-dark items will feature a small, yellow sticker identifying it as such, DGL exclusives will feature a silver diamond sticker, Target exclusives will feature a red sticker, etc. Glow-in-the-dark, glitter, flocked, and chrome items, as well as overseas releases of 'US exclusives' (which tend to be produced in countries like Australia with a round silver 'special edition' sticker) are not typically considered rare just for featuring a sticker. Comic Con products, which are produced with a special convention sticker, tend to be rarer, as less are produced by Funko, as well as items with the classic blue and white 'Funko shop' sticker - especially those from 2017 and earlier.

Be on the lookout for stickers which specifically mention the rarity, as well as the year the product was released. For example, a sticker reading '2013 NYCC, 1 in 32' is considered more rare than a sticker reading '2020 SDCC' with no numeric rarity.

2. Vaulted

You can't always identify a vaulted item by sight alone. Especially in today's collectable community, where Funko can vault a product at the drop of a hat, it can be tricky to stay up to date with what's in stock and what's not. Here's where your social circle comes in handy. Following groups on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit can open up conversations about which products have recently become vaulted, often before retailers themselves are aware. We also recommend checking the going rate for older, second-hand items within online markets like eBay and Pop Price Guide, AKA HobbyDB. Look for higher-than-retail prices, sudden spikes in popularity, or disappearing stock from online retailers like Ozzie Collectables. That way, if you happen to run into the product on the shelf, you'll know exactly which Pops are about to spike in value.

3. Special Releases

Not every exclusive is released for Comic Con. Right now, this is more true than ever, with special Funko release campaigns supporting social and global issues such as breast cancer, the 2020 Australian bushfires, Coronavirus, and more. A lot of the time, these releases aren't available to everyone, and only certain retailers will carry the products. These can be especially rare for your collection. Look out for words like 'limited' over 'exclusive', as well as special announcements from Funko themselves about partnering with certain retailers. You may have to get up early to make the drop if you want to avoid the dreaded flipper re-sale prices, but it can be worth it.

How do you identify rare items? Do you have many in your collection? Let us know in the comments below!

It's not long now until Funko rolls out Funko Fair 2021, this year's virtual replacement for Toy Fair and an exciting new roll-out of release news. "The two-week virtual event introduces new products for 2021 across Vinyl, SODA, Funko Games, Paka Paka and Loungefly," they announced on their blog a week ago.

This news came as no surprise to many collectors, who have quickly adapted over the past year to expect exciting new alternatives to previously in-person comic con style events, such as 2020's virtual New York and San Diego Comic Con, along with a whole host of other conventions.

It will be interesting to see exactly what exclusives Funko announces to kick off the new year. Brian Mariotti, Chief Executive Officer at Funko, noted that “Funko is always discovering new ways to surprise and delight our fans by bringing the best of pop culture directly to them. Funko Fair is all about virtually showcasing the newest products that our incredible creative team has been working on for the past several months."

According to Funko, the following licensors have confirmed their participation: Warner Bros, DC, Pokémon, NBCUniversal, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Disney, Marvel and Star Wars. Additionally, there will be days dedicated just to the latter few licenses, as well as new Loungefly product announcements.

"The Fair kicks off the morning of January 19th with a new episode of FUN TV, a monthly short form production co-hosted by Brian Mariotti and Mike Becker," notes the titular Funko blog.

You can stay up to date with the announcements online by following along with the official Funko accounts on their social media channels, and Ozzie will be showcasing some of the more exciting announcements, too.

What sort of upcoming releases are you hoping to see from Funko to kick off 2021?

For those of you staying updated to all of the Comic Con news re: recent COVID-19 developments, it will come as no surprise that Funko have decided to suspend yet another convention and host it online instead so that customers can still have access to their exclusives.

Here was the official announcement posted on the Funko blog as of March 19:

"WonderCon® Anaheim 2020 has been postponed. At this time no decision has been made regarding the rescheduling of WonderCon®. In an effort to keep the convention spirit alive we will be bringing you WonderCon® virtually with Funko's second virtual con! Funko's WonderCon® Anaheim | Funko Virtual Con will take place April 10-12."

One positive outcome from this decision is the news that small, independent retailers, such as Ozzie Collectables, will be able to bring these exclusives to our customers as well!

The virtual con will be happening on dpltoys.com.au on Saturday April 11 at 9:00 AM AEST.

See below Funko's announcements for product releases so far. As always, please note that Ozzie cannot confirm which products will be available to us until the time of the convention.
