9. The Office

Because let’s be real - you’re gonna start by revisiting some old feel-good classics.

8. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Either you never got around to watching it (and now is the perfect time) or you did and loved it. Either way, it’s time to grab some popcorn and return to a classic!

7. I Am Not Ok With This

A recent Netflix winner, this classic horror-inspired coming-of-age TV show features not one, but two IT actors, fantastic dialogue, and a rip-your-heart-out romance plot. Definitely worth a watch.

6. Schitt’s Creek

Perfect if you need a laugh, or just want to feel better about your situation.

5. The Witcher

Because why not? You may as well see what all the hype’s about.

4. Friends

Nothing will make you feel warmer and fuzzier inside than by starting from season 1 and reliving all the Ross/Rachel drama - trust us.

3. Too Hot To Handle

This one’s for the reality TV bingers. If you like watching attractive, not-the-brightest-bulb young people throwing themselves at each other, then this is a great watch you could get through in only a day.

2. Riverdale

Yep, that’s right - it’s time. Either you’re already caught up on this one (in which case, it’s DEFINITELY time for a re-watch) or you’ve been too nervous to start. It’s just ridiculous enough to be really entertaining, and it only becomes more convoluted as the seasons go on. You might as well, right?

1. Killing Eve

Seriously, if you haven’t already, there’s never been a better time to give this one a watch. It’s currently on its third season and has a massively dedicated cult following. We recommend this one if you’re into crime dramas, female assassins, or just Sandra Oh. Why not all three?

Let’s face it: the scariest things going on right now are happening outside of our homes. It’s a trying time for everyone, and with the uncertainty of Coronavirus and everything going on in the world, now more than ever we need an escape.

Horror movies are a great way of releasing all the built-up fear and tension from inside. I mean, what better way to release some adrenaline than by scaring yourself on purpose with a fictional movie, right? Scroll down to find out picks for the top 13 horror movies you can watch while stuck in quarantine to take your mind off of things - grab the popcorn, and get ready to be scared! (In a good way!)

  1. The Shining (1980)

Let’s start with a classic. A movie about being stuck inside, isolated from the outside world, and slowly going mad… hmm. Now that sounds familiar.

  1. It Follows (2014)

It Follows is a great example of an indie flick that quickly became a cult classic for fans of slow, atmospheric horror. It has a very gradual build-up and works well as a homage to classic horror films, all without ever showing its villain.

  1. Get Out (2017)

Some may argue that it’s more thriller than horror (before you reach the last 20 minutes of the film) but you definitely shouldn’t knock it until you try it. Get Out is a great example of Jordan Peele’s fantastic directorial work and is a fan-favourite for many modern horror enthusiasts.

  1. The Witch (2015)

Another film that quickly became a cult classic, The Witch/VVitch is a New England horror story about witchcraft, demonic forces, and family tension. It’ll make you uncomfortable, but in the best way possible.

  1. The Cabin in the Woods (2011)

This is one for the veteran horror fans as well as the newbies. There’s something for everyone in this horror-comedy boasting a talented cast and stunning visual effects.

  1. Halloween (1978)

Another classic that shouldn’t be looked over, be sure to give this flick a try for the first (or hundredth!) time before seeing the new upcoming sequel to the 2018 remake.

  1. The Thing (1982)

Body horror, paranoia, and incredible practical effects make this classic creature-feature a notoriously terrifying science fiction thriller.

  1. Jennifer’s Body (2009)

Another horror comedy and cult-classic, this teen horror flick is led by Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. With an early 2000s pop-punk soundtrack and iconic costume choices, this will either feel like a blast from the past or a new awakening. Don’t knock it ‘til you try it!

  1. Scream (1996)

What’s your favourite scary movie? Some call it the ultimate slasher film - others hail it as the ultimate horror flick of the 90s. Either way, it’s a great film to revisit when there’s nothing else to watch!

  1. The Descent (2005)

Arguably the most stunning part of this film is its monster design, but the atmosphere, tension, and practical effects are nothing to sniff at either!

  1. A Quiet Place (2018)

This was the first horror film to make me hold my breath in the cinema in years. It’s got fantastic sound design, a super creepy monster design - and an upcoming sequel. What more could you want?

  1. Alien (1979)

The original film about respecting the quarantine, this fear-of-the-unknown flick is a science-fiction must for everybody.

  1. Don’t Look Now (1973)

A cult-classic that seldom makes its way onto these lists, this is a stylistic masterpiece that should be watched for the sheer costuming and set design alone. It’s a perfect concoction of paranoia and 70s charm with enough behind the scenes lore and drama to keep you invested for days. Plus, it’s based on a short story that’s even more terrifying than the flick - win-win!
