Jenny Huynh Dragon Shield sleeves are some of the most popular card sleeves in the trading card game (TCG) community. But are they actually good quality? In this article, we'll take a closer look at Dragon Shield sleeves to help you decide if they're the right choice for protecting your precious cards.

Firstly, let's talk about the materials. Dragon Shield sleeves are made from a durable polypropylene plastic that provides excellent protection against wear and tear. The sleeves are also acid-free and archival safe, which means that they won't damage your cards over time. In terms of quality of materials, Dragon Shield sleeves definitely deliver.

But what about the fit? One of the most important factors in a good card sleeve is how well it fits your cards. Dragon Shield sleeves are known for their snug fit, which keeps your cards from slipping around inside the sleeve. The sleeves also have a slightly textured back, which provides extra grip and makes them less likely to slide around when stacked.

Another factor to consider is the durability of the sleeves. After all, what good is a sleeve if it falls apart after a few uses? In this regard, Dragon Shield sleeves have a strong reputation. They are thick and sturdy, and can withstand regular use without tearing or splitting.

Of course, there are some downsides to Dragon Shield sleeves as well. Some players have reported that the sleeves can be difficult to shuffle due to their snug fit, and that the textured back can make it harder to slide cards into a deck. Additionally, some players have complained about the sleeves being too tall, which can make them difficult to use with some deck boxes. We think it's important to acknowledge that, as with any brand of sleeves, a lot certainly comes down to personal preference, and it's sometimes worth comparing reviews before making a final purchase. Given the overall state of Dragon Shield reviews, however, we think it's safe to say that there's a reason they're so popular, and the majority of TCG collectors seem to agree that the overall quality is good.

In conclusion, Dragon Shield sleeves are generally considered to be of high quality. They are made from durable materials, have a snug fit, and are known for their durability. While there are some downsides to the sleeves, they are generally a solid choice for protecting your cards. Ultimately, whether or not Dragon Shield sleeves are right for you will depend on your personal preferences and needs. If you're looking for a durable and protective sleeve that fits well and looks great, Dragon Shield sleeves are definitely worth considering.

Continuing on with their stellar celebration of the big screen's favourite old as time mouse, Funko have just released this gorgeous looking movie moment from Fantasia detailing perhaps the most iconic Mickey. Let's take a closer look.

The Pop! showcases in bright and bursting colours one of the most iconic scenes from Disney's Fantasia, when the sorcerer's apprentice Mickey uses his fumbling newfound magic to control the waves as they crash around him.

We're not gonna lie: this one looks pretty awesome. The detailing on the waves is awesome, but sometimes you just can't fault a classic look, and this Mickey certainly takes the cake.

It's not due until the 31st of January 2019 (which is way closer than we're comfortable with) but can pre-order it here for $49.99.

I was lucky enough to get to go and see Venom (2018) over the weekend, roughly a week after its initial release. If you haven't heard about it yet, you've probably been living under a rock, but this movie is sparking some serious controversy.

Boasting an 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it's clear that more fans than critics have been enjoying the symbiotic love story. And look: I'm not going to sit here and tell you that it was a brilliant piece of cinema. Following the success of big-budget Blockbusters and ultra-ambitious crossovers such as Infinity War, Sony had some pretty big shoes to fill in terms of what seems to count as a successful superhero movie in 2018.

Audience members have come to expect a pretty finite and fool-proof formula from their Marvel films: high-tech, big cast, smooth script, relatable do-good characters, etc. It wasn't that Venom wasn't up to the challenge, per se. It just did things a little... differently.

It's no secret that I have a major bias in this area. Anybody who knows me will know that I am a major fan of any and all Spidey or Spidey-affiliated characters, and yes, that includes grumpy can't-catch-a-break Eddie Brock and his bossy symbiote. So when I heard that this movie (which has been in production since 2008!) was finally coming out, I was pretty ecstatic.

I know it's a controversial opinion, but I kind of loved it.

Sue me for not minding the time-warp trip back to 2002 that this film took me on. Venom seems to be garnering a lot of backlash in the way of critics who have come to expect a very specific kind of superhero movie, especially in terms of Marvel comic adaptations, but I think that there are few things more handy than some good ol' perspective when it comes to taking this film with a grain of salt.

First of all: this is Sony, not the MCU we know and love. Absent here is the campy, cheerful, good versus bad we have come to expect from today's Spiderverse flicks. Watching Venom felt at times like being transported directly back to the early 2000s realm of Toby Maguire's Spider-Man, with its overdone depiction of a grimy city, memorable villains, dark colour grading, and cheesy script.

(Seriously, though. Hearing Tom Hardy respond to the line, "Aren't you Eddie Brock?" with, "I used to be" all whilst wearing a completely serious expression was, like, the funniest part of this movie, and I don't think that it meant to be.)

Secondly: this is Spiderverse without the spider. Director Ruben Fleischer said that "the most challenging part" of bringing this movie to life was writing a character whose main motivation in the comics is Spider-Man without... well, Spider-Man.

Rather than creating a massive plot hole, however, many audience members have found that this then opened up a larger realm of possibilities for motivation between the characters of Eddie and Venom, and gave Venom's writers more freedom in developing motivations on either character's ends. Some have found that the ensuing motivation for Venom (the fact that he is "kind of a loser" on his planet) came off as cheesy. Others feel that it perfectly captures the cheesiness and moral grey that already existed between these two characters in the comics.

I won't lie: there are some obvious flaws with this film. There's Hardy's terrible accent, the lack of chemistry between Anne and Eddie, car chase scenes that go on too long, plot inconsistencies (what the hell was Chaos supposed to be doing in all those months that Eddie was having his melt down? Or are we really supposed to believe that it took him months to get to an airport?) and corny dialogue that comes across as even sillier when spoken in Venom's growly voice.

So what are we supposed to take away from this?

The thing is, not every movie needs to be a cinematic masterpiece to be enjoyable. Much like the equally cheesy and convoluted comics, Venom was a lot of fun. It does a great job of bringing that 90s ridiculousness onto the big screen, and for the first time ever, Venom actually looks like Venom.

Whilst decidedly more goofy than his comic counterpart (and still just as much of a meathead), Hardy does a fantastic job at playing a convincing Eddie Brock. No doubt following from the success of anti-hero flicks such as Deadpool, there is much to be said for how intrinsically good/not good these characters are meant to be, but in my opinion, the film does a fantastic job in this regard.

As much of Brock's charm is supposed to come from how not charming he is, Hardy hits the nail on the head. I can't imagine what better motivation than 'two losers running a chaotic neutral shitshow' there could have been to compensate for the lack of wallcrawler in this movie.

The thing that confuses me is the sheer amount of comic fans complaining about obvious things, such as the film's tonal dissonance, Hardy's bizarre performance, and the sheer absurdity of the relationship between Brock and the symbiote.

To me, these things all felt very Venom anyway. This is a movie adaptation about the hulking muscle monster from space who enjoys senseless revenge, eating brains, and running commentary for the sole purpose of annoying its favourite human. This is a movie adaptation about Eddie King-of-the-Weirdos Brock, who calls his symbiote "darling" and talks to himself more than any functional human being has a right to. And yeah, the weirdness comes in varying degrees, depending on which comic you're reading. (Looking for somewhere to start? Try First Host!)

For fans of the comics, this movie does a great job at capturing the nuances between Eddie and his Other/husband/nuisance symbiote, even without Spider-Man there to motivate them into sticking together. It sort of works better as a romantic comedy than a superhero movie, though.

Another thing that struck me as awesome about this movie was the potential for character design. Like I mentioned before, this is really the first time where a movie with Venom has had the creature looking like himself, and the possibilities in terms of collectables and merchandise are decidedly endless.

I know that ever since the release of this particular Carnage Pop! Vinyl, I and fans everywhere have been hanging out for the character's much needed introduction to this series. Aren't we glad to have stuck around for the after credits scene?

Similarly, these Venomized Marvel favourites have the potential of a crossover (somewhere, somehow, someday) buzzing in everybody's minds: Sony's licensing rights be damned. (Psst: you can get them here as a bundle for $143.92!)

The point is that there still feels like there could be a lot of pop culture potential from this universe, and I for one am excited to see it unfold. And if you're interested, there's already plenty of Venom merch just waiting to earn a place on the shelf.

The final verdict? Go and see Venom. If you're more interested in having a good time than you are with playing cinephile, or if you're a fan of the comics and/or just general silly 90s-inspired monster movie goodness, then this is the movie for you. And if you're not? Go and see it anyway. There's hardly any point in voicing your opinion on something if you haven't even given it the time of day.

https://www.ozziecollectables.com/blogs/the-ozzie-blog/funko-pop-vinyl-of-the-week-it-2017-pennywise-with-wrought-iron-us-exclusive-pop-vinyl 2018-09-12T16:00:00+10:00 2018-09-12T16:00:00+10:00 Funko Pop! Vinyl of the Week: It (2017) Pennywise with Wrought Iron US Exclusive Pop! Vinyl Dayna Mortimore Okay, so it’s no secret that I’m a gigantic horror fan… the release of Andy Muschietti’s 2017 reboot of Stephen King’s classic killer clown tale It sparked interest from fans of thrills and chills everywhere, and it’s no surprise. The film scored an impressive 85% on Rotten Tomatoes and features a cast of crazy talented kids as Derry’s losers club, with Bill Skarsgård playing the formidable Pennywise the dancing clown.

The film was a winner to boot with fans of the 1986 novel and movie buffs alike, and featured a tonne of homages to the originals including clever references to Tim Curry’s performance in the 1990 mini-series, many of King’s other cult-classic novels, and even Pennywise’s little-known intergalactic origins! It had what was a pretty decent mix of gore and suspense and managed to keep most viewers entertained for all of its 2 hours and 15 minutes of running time. A lot of this undoubtedly had to do with Skarsgård’s Pennywise.

He does the creepy clown thing down to a T. If you’re a real funatic, then you no doubt (just like I) spent most of the movie last year thinking to yourself, ooh, that’d make a good Pop! Vinyl. Ooh, and that—

There are just way too many options here, guys. It’s killing me.

Funko know their brand very well, and they seem to know their horror audience, too. The past year has seen great horror releases in abundance, including earlier this year’s series 2 release for the cast of It (2017) featuring not one but two chases! The second wave also featured three new designs for our favourite conceptual killer. Unfortunately, these sold out quite quickly, but fear not: re-releases can be found galore at the moment, and Pennywise is no stranger to the re-release.

My favourite, by far, has to be Pennywise with Wrought Iron.

It’s a FYE US exclusive firs released in late April this year and then re-released after selling out almost immediately, and it features Pennywise in his first major fight scene with the losers club, complete with werewolf claws, glowing yellow eyes, and that less-than-comfy looking wrought iron metal pole sticking through his head! The Pop! version does a great job of showcasing that dazed, manic look that Skarsgård nailed in the film. Even in his little four-inch stylised vinyl form, I still don’t want this thing anywhere near me while I sleep!

Another great thing about this one is the detail on his costume. I think that the colour looks more vibrant on this variant than it did on the earlier moulds for 2017 releases. No ruffle is left unsculpted, and no, er, spooky pompoms left bare. The way that his face has been distorted around the wrought iron is super creepy, too. Just like in the movie, we’re seeing a glimpse of the monster behind the clown’s already terrifying appearance. The Pop! Vinyl features a tear in the side of Pennywise’s mouth where we get a good view of the shard-like teeth that ripped off Georgie’s arm in the film’s first ten minutes.

I can’t decide what I love most about this one. I think it’s the twisted expression on his face on this one that makes it my favourite. What do you guys think?

You can grab him here for $18.99 before he floats off of shelves again.

Let us know in the comments what your favourite Pennywise Pop! Vinyl has been so far and what you’re hoping to see in future releases! (Especially considering all the hype around pt.2 at the moment!)

As always, happy collecting, everyone.

If you’re a collector of anything in the pop culture world, chances are you’ve heard of Funko’s subscription boxes. But what’s the big deal, anyway?

The sub boxes began back in 2015 with the launch of the Marvel Collector Corps for Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars: Smuggler’s Bounty for The Force Awakens. The next two launches were the first Funko LoC box in 2016 with DC: Legion of Collectors for Batman vs. Superman, and the first Disney Treasures box with ‘Pirate Cove’ in 2017.

What really draws collectors in about these boxes is their rarity. No, we don’t mean that they’re impossible to find— although sometimes, it really does feel like pulling teeth trying to find a decent price and release date. It is the rarity of the actual items inside, however, which has led to so much positive attention.

For the first time, Funko fans (and fans of pop culture and Pop! Vinyls alike) were able to purchase 100% exclusive products that weren’t available anywhere else on a regular, subscription-based schedule. Most of the items in these boxes still aren’t available on their own at retail!

If you’re a funatic (and haven’t been living under a rock), then you’ve no doubt heard that Funko have discontinued their subscription boxes. They announced around February 2018 that ‘Adventures’ would be the last Disney sub box, making ‘Ever After’ the second last.

The boxes haven’t disappeared completely, however: they’re now available with specific retailers, rather than just to subscribed customers. This is great news for us Aussie funatics, as it means a massive increase in the availability of these exclusive products! That being said, sometimes you just can’t fault a good exclusive, and Funko haven’t held back at all with Ever After, one of their last ‘subscription’ boxes ever!

Let’s get into the contents of the Ever After box! Here’s what goodies are packed inside:

⦁              Eric and Ariel Exclusive Pop! Vinyl 2-pack
⦁              Lady and the Tramp Pop! Keychains
⦁              Minnie Mouse Mystery Mini and Collectible Tin
⦁              Official Disney Pin featuring Daisy and Donald
⦁              Patch featuring Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast

You can argue that all Disney fans have a bit of a romantic streak in us by definition, and this box was perfect for that inner sap! I’ll definitely be adding the pocket Pop! Keychains to my car keys (like they’re not getting absurdly crowded as it is) or, alternatively, setting them up with a spaghetti candlelit dinner for those impromptu Pop! Photoshoots. (I have a life, I swear.)

The patch and the pin are classic and timeless, too, and it was great to see the amount of detail that went into these. Lumiere is the prototypical Disney romantic ideal, so I wasn’t surprised to find him in this box! Daisy and Donald, as well, are one of the much loved OG pairings when it comes to us Disney nerds. I think this is one we’ll all be torn up about for all the right reasons! I’m tempted to keep it in its original packaging, but it’s just one of those things that you know will look fantastic on a backpack or a denim jacket, too. Help, I’m running out of room!

Hands down the best part of this box has to be the 2-pack. The Eric and Ariel 2-pack features a romantic rendition of the couple in their wedding ensembles. The moulds are classic and the designs are flawless. I especially cannot get over how movie-accurate Ariel’s wedding dress looks! Something about it is very nostalgic: I distinctly remember owning a paper doll of Ariel around the time of the movie’s popularity and obsessively dressing and undressing her into the 2D rendition of this big, poofy gown… it’s just one of those ageless Disney classics that can’t be faulted for the period of its release and still carries well into today’s princess aesthetic.

I, of course, can’t speak on behalf of all Disney fans, but I think it’s safe to say that this one was a winner! It has been such an awesome past year for the Disney princess revivals; it’s great to see that we’re moving away from old design habits and introducing new elements like the diamond glitter range and the much-appreciated re-releases of some classic favourites like what we’ve seen this year with Aladdin and Hercules. Here’s hoping to see a little more of this in future Disney boxes!

Overall, the Ever After box gets a solid 4 stars from me. Even the packaging on this one is a winner! If you haven’t gotten your hands on one yet, there are still a few left here. They’re on sale at the moment for $60, so make sure you get your hands on one before they’re gone forever after!

What did you think of this box? And what is your inner Disney nerd hoping for from future releases? We love hearing your thoughts, so let us know in the comments!

Happy collecting, everyone.
